Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Whisk or spoon for mixing
  • Floured surface for kneading
  • Baking tray or pan
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water 110°F
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter plus extra for brushing
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 –3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar optional: can substitute with honey for sweetness

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy. Add melted butter and salt, then slowly incorporate flour. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  • Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and place on a greased baking tray, leaving space between them.
  • Bake: Brush rolls with melted butter and bake at 375°F for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown on top and soft in the center.
  • Serve: Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or any of your favorite spreads.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help the yeast rise properly.
  • You can refrigerate the dough overnight after the first rise for improved flavor.
  • For softer rolls, don’t overbake them—ensure they are golden brown and soft in the center.
