Equipment

  • Slow cooker or roasting pan
  • Sharp knife for trimming and slicing
  • Mixing bowls for seasoning rub and marinade
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting board

Ingredients

Essential Ingredients:

  • 4-6 lbs beef brisket flat or point cut
  • 2 tbsp beef bouillon powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • 2 cups beef stock

Optional Ingredients:

  • 2 medium onions sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • Fresh herbs rosemary, thyme, or bay leaves
  • ½ cup beer red wine, or apple juice (for added flavor)
  • 2 cups chopped vegetables carrots, celery, potatoes

Instructions

Prepare the Brisket:

  • Trim excess fat, leaving a thin layer for flavor. Apply the seasoning rub evenly and let the brisket marinate for 4-6 hours or overnight.

Set Up Equipment:

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F or set the slow cooker to low. Arrange the brisket fat side up in the cooking vessel, surrounded by aromatics and optional vegetables.

Cook Low and Slow:

    Slow Cooker

    • Cook on low for 8-10 hours.

    Oven:

    • Cover tightly with foil and bake for 1 hour per pound, checking for tenderness.

    Check for Doneness:

    • Use a meat thermometer to confirm an internal temperature of 195-205°F.

    Rest and Slice:

    • Let the brisket rest for 20-30 minutes, then slice against the grain. Serve with juices or gravy from the cooking liquid.

    Notes

    • Use a flat cut for clean slices and a point cut for juicier, more flavorful meat.
    • Let the brisket marinate overnight for the best flavor.
    • Always slice brisket against the grain for maximum tenderness.
